Fast and effective pain relief from soft tissue massage
As the name suggests, soft tissue massage works on applying pressure over ‘soft’ structures in the body, rather than hard surfaces such as bone. These soft structures include muscle, tendon, ligament and fascia. Soft tissue massage is a well-known and frequently used technique due to it’s a fast and effective way to relieve pain. You can benefit in various ways from having this technique applied. Such as; improving blood flow, reducing swelling, relieving muscle tension and aches, improving posture, and increasing flexibility. Maintaining all of these benefits, helps lead to happy, pain-free body.
Muscular tension can be helped with soft tissue release, but another important structure to release is fascia (myofascial release). Fascia is a layer of connective tissue which sits between the structures within our body. It is a flexible structure that acts to allow our muscles, tendons, ligaments, organs and joints to glide efficiently over one another. It is important that these glide in specific patterns or chains, to enable efficient movement. When muscles become tight, this can have a negative impact on the fascia which can also become tight or ‘glued down’, making it more difficult to move.
An area of tightness is your upper back or shoulder, for example, will affect the local tissue in that area. However, it will also have an effect on the whole chain. Fascia is an integral part of this chain. That’s why we recommend regular soft tissue massage therapy. It is an ideal way to maintain good movement through our connective tissues and structures and prevent the onset of pain or injury.
